You're right, MSDOS has no built-in software for CD drives, although a close look at drive A: after using a boot cd will give you a big clue as to how it's done.

If you have Win98SE on an original CD (or identical backup of same) it will probably self-install if you set the computer BIOS to 'boot from cdrom' and WIN98SE setup just loads itself.

If you have a drive to 'clean', use Windows to copy over the CD's WIN98 directory into, say, C:\WIN98. That's enough to completely reinstall using C:\WIN98\SETUP.EXE, so anything else related to Windows can be deleted using DOS. Best of luck (I do this all the time) Rik.
