Using Mc fee, in safemode prompt, WINDOWS Dir was deleted from my c:\ - along side the various viruses (iexplore.exe), hence corrupt or missing hal.dll message I kept getting. I restored but the DIR' has been renamed and some associated sub directories. Not knowing where they sit; would you know how I could re-map - I've not got the original case that had my 'key' so although I have the original disk for XP I wouldn't be able to reload so I need to salvage my C:\ WINDOWS.
Any helpful ideas....please!
