I had Windows 95 and Office s/w on computer. They were accidentally deleted. Copied windows 95b files from floppy to c drive.
When I reboot, "starting windows 95" appears, then the blue screen with the MS logo, as before. HOWEVER, instead of the desktop (start menu, task bar, clock, icons) afterwards, I am taking directly to c:\>.
What other files are needed that I can possibly download to get the desktop again? I do not have access to 95 CD.
Please help. Thank you.

If you have PheonixBIOS, When you turn on your computer, press the Escape key 3 times, and you will be brought to a Boot menu. Insert your Windows 95 CD and use the arrow keys to highlight CD-rom\DVD Drive. then press enter. After a few seconds, a Windows 95 Setup program will help you reinstall windows 95.

Hey, I love the site and I was so happy when I found it, but I have a problem.
Here's the situation:

I'm trying to install Windows 95 on my Virtual PC. (Virtual PC 2007)
I have the Win95 CD and I downloaded the boot disk, but I'm very confused about starting setup.
It says starting Windows 95, and goes to the command line a:\>
I don't know how to begin setup as there is no setup.exe or anything.
Can you please be of any assistance.
I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Sarah, these ISO disks are NOT complete installation disks of Windows 95, you cannot install Windows from these disks. The ISO's are there to REPAIR existing installations of Windows.
If you need to install Windows, the do the following:
1. If C: drive is not visible:
a) Run FDISK, create a Primary DOS Partition for the whole disk.
b) Reboot
c) Run Format C:
2. Change to the CDROM drive (it should display the drive letter when the DOS CD drivers are loaded by MSCDEX) e.g. D:
3. Type DIR to view the disk.
4. Run Setup.exe to start installation of windows. If setup.exe is not found, then you need the full Windows 95 CD (this is not provided on Bootdisk.com).

I just formatted the disk and I'm having trouble beyond step 2. I typed in the cd-rom letter and then setup.exe. Now I get an error "Bad command or filename." I do have the full version of Windows 95.
I did notice that you're supposed to install cd-rom drivers, but I have no idea which ones to install.

Tip: Virtual PC (VPC) is very slow and outdated and uses old drivers. Sun xVM VirtualBox can operate on way more OSes--host and guest. It's open source, which means it's free! Download now here.

Unfreakin' believable, I spent countless hours trying to do what I have done a million times over. People come to me with computers seathing with viruses and trojan horses not to mention hijacked computers and I make everything right again for a nominal fee (Fresh baked cookies). And this Hewlett Packard Pavilion 510w would not cooperate at all. Then I found you like angels purched in the clouds, thank God for you and your website. Many blessings!

I am trying to reinstall Windows 95 on an older laptop with only a CD ROM drive. I cannot get the Windows 95 disk to boot (BIOS does not find a bootable disk) and there is no way to connect a floppy drive. I am a bit new to Windows 9x installs. Shouldn't I be able to boot from the Win95 installation CD? If not, how do I install WIndows with only my CD ROM drive?

if you have the disk turn on the laptop put the disk in turn off the laptop, turn the laptop back on then the laptop will automatically run the disk then the installer will start and go through the installer and hopefully that will work. good luck
