Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

i have a Dell Dimension b110 hard drive and it only has 1 drive so it keeps telling me that there is no disk in the drive so what download should i do.

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

If your Dimension has a CD burner I would download the Windows 98 boot CD. If not, your only choice is the Windows 98 boot disk download on this page.

Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

I'm trying to use my mac to create the boot disks that I need to try and start my win98 laptop PC. But the mac can't read/use the self extract files for windows. Is there any way around this? - would it be able to use the cd extract? My PC at work doesn't have a floppy drive and doesn't have a burner so I can't use it to make the disks..

Thanks for any help.
Chris

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

No 98 boot disk support for creating a CDROM boot disk. Nobody uses or has floppies anymore.

Further, your Win ME cdrom boot disks can't sys c:, so what is the point. All you can do is fdisk and format a drive, and can't get any further. You can copy the Win instll files to a drive, but if you can't boot to it, you can't do an install. Further, if you try to do an install under DOS having booted into these boot disks, the ramdrive creates and error during Win98 setup, looking for "drive B:" when there is no drive B physically or setup in bios.

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

Millions of us started with PCs that had floppy drives to boot from, and most PCs did have at least couple of hard drives and couple of CD drives also. When all else fail, I can boot from Floppy drive and check other drives, provided they were formatted as FAT or FAT32 drives. Thanks for the web-page.

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

Not true about floppies. I and many other people still have them. They are still being sold. They're great as a backup for small stuff.

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

Excellent! Until autoexec.bat completes. Then I get "Invalid COMMAND.COM"
Enter correct name of Command Interpreter (eg, C:\COMMAND.COM
>>[blinking cursor]

I don't have a clue where to go from here. Can you help?

Also, I can't believe the nasty tone of some of the comments on here. You're the only site that looks like you're paying attention to the feedback AND you have dependably functional downloads - and folks still piss and moan! Amazing!

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

I have no idea if you're still having this problem- but I've just come across the same thing. I was wondering if you figured it out....?

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

try with a different disk.....

Re: Windows 98 Boot Disk Download

This site is incredible. A one of a kind. Quality downloads and accurate information. You folks clearly set a high standard and fine example of what the world wide web can do and should be doing. Teaching computing, no scams, educated admins, material always improving. Thank you for this service. I can't tell you how many times this DOS lover has visited here. Well, linux is a close second.

Thanks again......djr
